Wedding Dress – How to choose it

Selecting a wedding dress is quite tricky and requires a lot of patience. It is always better to do a little research before actually hunting down for a wedding dress. Having a definite or even a vague idea about the kind of wedding dress you want, makes it all the more easier to buy a dress. While starting the process of selecting your wedding dress, make sure that you consider the following tips.

These simple useful tips might come handy while choosing your wedding dress.

  1. Wedding dresses are available in many different styles. Know what kind of wedding dress style you are interested in. Even if you don’t, browsing through bridal fashion magazines or any other online websites can help you decided on the kind of dress style you want.
  2. If you are getting your dress made, make sure that you get references from friends or family on the best designers or dressmakers.
  3. Buying a wedding dress is one thing. But, the budget also plays a major role. If you have a fixed budget, check for dresses that come under your budget width. Going beyond your budget might force you to compromise on other things.
  4. It’s always nice to have a second opinion. Each time you go shopping for a wedding dress, take a friend along who would give you an honest opinion.
  5. If you have already bought your wedding shoes, carry them while you are trying the dresses. This will give you an idea if the dress needs to be altered or hemmed. And of course, you’ll know if the shoes go with the dress.
  6. Don’t pick random styles. Make sure you pick a wedding dress style that compliments your body type. For instance, ball gowns are suitable for large hips, or a mermaid dress for the shorties.
  7. If there any trunk shows, try attending them. It’s a total money saver.
  8. Trying out different dress styles can give an idea about what might suit you.
  9. After choosing your dress, if there are any alterations to be made, negotiate the charges with the dressmaker or with the salon.
  10. If you are getting your dress made, give atleast 6-7 months for the dressmaking.
  11. Most of the times, you might have to pay deposit for the dress. So be prepared to pay atleast 50% of the value of the dress.

But in the end, all that matters is YOU in that pretty dress. Happy shopping.
